As we say goodbye to winter, along with the likes of snow and ice, we now enjoy the milder conditions and warmer temperatures of spring. While you may think to do your annual spring cleaning around your home, performing a checkup on your home’s exterior is arguably just as important. All winter long, your home’s exterior is put to the test by snow, ice, sleet, and virtually anything the season throws at it – with your roof being the most vulnerable. As such, especially in the early days of spring, a roof inspection is a great idea – to analyze any damage that may have taken place during the previous seasons. To learn more, keep reading below!

Why Roof Inspections are Great for Spring

During the winter, when the weather can be bitterly cold and unpleasant, we as humans tend to remain dormant through most of the season. Your roof, however, does not have that luxury, standing tall against everything that Mother Nature throws at it. Conducting a roof inspection during winter can be both dangerous and difficult, given that conditions such as ice and snow can make it hard to truly assess the state of your roof. That’s why, when the snow and ice melt in spring, you are given much more ease of access to see how your roof is holding up, and then you can take necessary action from there (whether it’s roof repair, replacement, etc.)

What Should I Look For on my Roof?

When you conduct your roof inspection, make sure to look out for signs of damage, examples of which follow below:

  • Cracked shingles
  • Missing shingles
  • Buckled shingles
  • Sagging
  • Signs of water damage
  • Mold
  • Moss
  • Rusted Gutters

In addition to this, don’t forget to check your home’s attic, as well. There, you can detect other signs of damage to your roofing system, such as leaking, water damage, mold, or mildew. Especially with mold and mildew, these problems can cause respiratory issues over time – something you don’t want to be dealing with.

Should you see any of these signs of damage, it’s best that you stop the problem(s) before they get worse and get in touch with a professional contractor, like us at AMDG Exterior Contracting!
